Quincey ...Deception

Living in a new place is great as there's so much to see, do and learn not only about its culture, people, history but also about food. Food, (my passion) is the universal language of the world. My most recent discovery at the fresh fruit market in North Adelaide last week is a fruit called Quince. It is probably a familiar fruit to the Western world. But being an Asian, it's indeed my first time I stumble across this very attractive yellow fruit which has such a strong nice aroma. It has such a healthy yellow glow with a strong nice aroma that I am not sure when will be the right time to eat it. After leaving Quince for a couple of days on the table, there's these little spots of brown like tiny stars on the fruit. It's really tough to cut and the taste.....yikes, hardly live up to the attractiveness of the fruit. I would have thought (when I decide to buy it) would be nice, tender, juicy and taste great - perhaps a close to the pear family. Indeed it is the contrary...it is tangy, tough and rough. Hardly a fruit to eat - fresh. Obviously, instead of throwing it away, I decided to make my morning cup of fresh fruit juice with it and I added red carrots. What do know!!! it turn up to be very nice tasty juice combined with the strong aroma of Quince. There's so much more to learn about this fruit and this blog - http://volunteer.blogs.com/winewaves/technical_reference_flavors/ does a pretty spot on job on Quince. One thing for sure, I will not buy this fruit again...not unless my family members from Asia starts getting inquisitive about this fruit called Quince in their next visit planned in Autumn 2010. Nevertheless, it has been a pleasant discovery for me...at least now I know what Quince tastes like...so never be deceived by looks as they always say!!!

Perseverance...a big word

Sometimes when I think about what I want to achieve...it seems to be harder to do when I get more mature. Could it be I'd became a lot 'wiser'...able to rationalize all the 'why nots' or could it be because I know I have a lot of more exciting easy options in life... I was exercising at the gym this morning and met a nice young lady on a threadmill...I thought to myself I was once looking as good and weigh as little as she... now that I needed to trim my weight badly for health reasons...it does seem double if not tripple hard to loose 1 kg. Well, yesterday on Channel 9 they had a lady on air who used to weigh 195 kg and was able to loose 40 kg just by doing two hours of exercising each day ...this calls for a lot of hard work, patience, perseverance for over 10 months to achieve that...am putting 'that big word' to a test, so hopefully when I blog in February 2010 on the same subject...I hope I will be able to measure up and loose all that kgs I needed and hence, able to fit into my teenage jeans...
