Living in a new place is great as there's so much to see, do and learn not only about its culture, people, history but also about food. Food, (my passion) is the universal language of the world. My most recent discovery at the fresh fruit market in North Adelaide last week is a fruit called Quince. It is probably a familiar fruit to the Western world. But being an Asian, it's indeed my first time I stumble across this very attractive yellow fruit which has such a strong nice aroma. It has such a healthy yellow glow with a strong nice aroma that I am not sure when will be the right time to eat it. After leaving Quince for a couple of days on the table, there's these little spots of brown like tiny stars on the fruit. It's really tough to cut and the taste.....yikes, hardly live up to the attractiveness of the fruit. I would have thought (when I decide to buy it) would be nice, tender, juicy and taste great - perhaps a close to the pear family. Indeed it is the contrary...it is tangy, tough and rough. Hardly a fruit to eat - fresh. Obviously, instead of throwing it away, I decided to make my morning cup of fresh fruit juice with it and I added red carrots. What do know!!! it turn up to be very nice tasty juice combined with the strong aroma of Quince. There's so much more to learn about this fruit and this blog - http://volunteer.blogs.com/winewaves/technical_reference_flavors/ does a pretty spot on job on Quince. One thing for sure, I will not buy this fruit again...not unless my family members from Asia starts getting inquisitive about this fruit called Quince in their next visit planned in Autumn 2010. Nevertheless, it has been a pleasant discovery for me...at least now I know what Quince tastes like...so never be deceived by looks as they always say!!!

will try about this fruit when in Adelaide again or in Australia
